Make this easy baked shrimp toast for a crispy, savory appetizer or snack. This recipe avoids frying and delivers golden, flavorful shrimp spread on toast quickly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices white bread, crusts removed
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 scallion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg white, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly brush both sides of the bread slices with olive oil. Place them on a baking sheet.
  2. Prepare the shrimp spread: Place the shrimp, mayonnaise, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, chopped scallion, and white pepper into a food processor. Pulse until the mixture forms a coarse paste. Do not over-process; you want some texture remaining.
  3. Spread an even, thick layer of the shrimp mixture over one side of each bread slice.
  4. If using, lightly brush the top of the shrimp mixture with the beaten egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the shrimp topping is cooked through and the bread edges are golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from the oven. Let cool slightly before slicing each piece into triangles or strips. Serve warm as a party shrimp recipe or quick seafood appetizer.

Notes

  • For a Vietnamese shrimp toast flavor, add a pinch of sugar and a dash of fish sauce to the shrimp mixture.
  • Serve this flavorful shrimp spread on bread with a side of sweet chili sauce for dipping.
  • If you prefer a richer flavor, lightly toast the bread for 3 minutes before adding the shrimp mixture, then continue baking as directed.
