Ingredients
Scale
2 oz Vodka (Citron vodka recommended)
1 oz Fresh lemon juice
0.75 oz Simple syrup (see notes for quick method)
0.5 oz Triple Sec or Cointreau
Coarse sugar, for rimming
Lemon wedge, for rimming and garnish
Instructions
Prepare the glass: Chill a martini glass in the freezer for at least 10 minutes. Run a lemon wedge around the outside rim of the chilled glass. Roll the wet rim in coarse sugar until evenly coated. Set aside.
Make the simple syrup: Combine equal parts granulated sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool before use.
Combine ingredients: Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the vodka, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and Triple Sec to the shaker.
Shake well: Close the shaker tightly and shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is very cold, about 15-20 seconds. This chills and slightly dilutes the drink.
Strain and serve: Strain the mixture into your prepared, sugar-rimmed martini glass. Garnish with a thin lemon twist or wheel.
Notes
For a quick mocktail version, substitute the vodka and Triple Sec with 3 oz of sparkling lemonade or lemon-lime soda, keeping the fresh lemon juice and simple syrup amounts the same.
If you do not have simple syrup, you can increase the Triple Sec slightly, but fresh lemon juice requires the syrup for proper balance.
Always use fresh lemon juice for the best bright, zesty flavor in this classic vodka cocktail.
