Easy Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings with Brown Sugar Glaze

Make these simple, comforting apple dumplings using store-bought crescent rolls. They bake up quickly with warm apples and a rich brown sugar sauce for a satisfying dessert.

  • 4 medium apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Peel, core, and cut each apple into 8 wedges.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg together.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into triangles. Do not separate the perforations.
  5. Place a few apple wedges on the wide end of a crescent triangle. Sprinkle the apple mixture over the apples.
  6. Roll the dough up tightly around the apples, starting from the wide end, sealing the edges as you roll. Place the wrapped dumplings seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
  7. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the water and bring to a simmer. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  8. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish. Sprinkle any remaining brown sugar mixture over the top.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the sauce is bubbly.
  10. Let the apple dumplings cool slightly before serving warm, spooning extra sauce over each one.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, substitute Sprite or lemon-lime soda for the water in the sauce mixture.
  • Serve these warm apple dumplings with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for the best comfort food dessert experience.
  • If you prefer whole apple dumplings, use 4 large apples and cut each into quarters instead of wedges.
