Make a festive centerpiece for your holiday morning with these easy cinnamon rolls shaped like a Christmas tree. This recipe uses store-bought dough for a quick, delicious breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (12.6 ounce) can refrigerated cinnamon roll dough (8 rolls)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1 package cream cheese icing (from the can)
  • Green food coloring
  • Red and green sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to the temperature specified on the cinnamon roll package. Lightly grease a round pizza pan or a large baking sheet.
  2. Unroll the 8 cinnamon rolls. Cut one roll in half to create two small triangles for the trunk base. Set these aside.
  3. Arrange the remaining 6 whole rolls in a circle on the prepared pan, leaving a small gap between them. This forms the base of the tree.
  4. Arrange the remaining 2 whole rolls in the center, stacked slightly on top of the base rolls, to create height.
  5. Place the two small triangles cut in step 2 at the bottom center of the arrangement to form the trunk. You should now have a rough tree shape.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Brush this mixture evenly over all the rolls.
  7. Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the rolls if you are using them.
  8. Bake according to the package directions, usually 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and cooked through.
  9. While the rolls bake, prepare the icing. Mix the entire contents of the icing packet with 1-2 drops of green food coloring until you achieve a light green color.
  10. Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle the green icing over the entire tree shape.
  11. Immediately top with red and green sprinkles before the icing sets. Serve warm as a sweet holiday centerpiece.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use homemade cinnamon roll dough instead of store-bought dough.
  • If you do not have a pizza pan, you can arrange the rolls on parchment paper placed on a standard baking sheet.
  • You can use a star-shaped cookie cutter or a small piece of yellow fondant to create a star for the top of the tree.
